This region in the country’s northwest is located in the highlands and characterized by cloud forest and more chilly weather. It is one of the country’s prime tourist spots with a lot of tourist infrastructure. In Monteverde, you can visit several National Parks including the famous national parks of Monteverde or Santa Elena. The region is also very popular for ziplining or sky walks through the treetops. La Fortuna is known for its hot springs as well as the National Park of the Arenal Volcano.
