On the Peninsula de Nicoya in the North Pacific, you will find a lot of beach and surf tourism. The area is characterized by dry forest, which gets pretty hot and dry in the dry season. Apart from the area of our wedding venue, we can recommend the south tip of the peninsula. In Montezuma, there is some tourism, but more in the laid back hippie way – the little town has retained a pleasant charm. There are a few nice restaurants and cafes at the beach. The hotel Amor de mar can be recommended. The Montezuma waterfall is worth a short hike. For a longer day-hike, there is a great trail along the shore starting at the Ylang Ylang Resort.
Cabuya near the Cabo Blanco Reserve is also nice and quiet, especially with a few secluded accommodations on the beach. We can recommend the Calala Lodge, if not for an overnight stay, then also nice for some lunch or a drink right at the beach. If you end up going to Cabuya, we do not recommend the Howler Monkey Hostel. The Cabo Blanco Reserve offers some nice hiking options.
Following the coast from Cabuya towards our venue, you pass by Santa Teresa, a pretty crowded place with a lot of hipster Yoga tourism. Going north from our venue, around the beaches of Playa Tamarindo, Playa Flamingo and Playa de Coco, you will find some resort tourism that is frequented by a predominantly US-American crowd. Further north around the Santa Rosa National Park and up to the Nicaraguan border, you are rewarded again with more lonely coastal stretches.
